Specialist Areas

  • Young Adult Hip
  • Hip Preservation Surgery
  • Hip Arthroscopy
  • Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI), labral tear treatment
  • Primary Hip Arthroplasty
  • Robotic assisted Hip Arthroplasty

I am a fellowship trained Consultant Hip Surgeon with an elective practice based at the Centre of Hip Surgery, Wrightington Hospital. I am also a Honorary Lecturer at the University of Salford. My elective practice is dedicated solely to hip surgery, with a special interest in arthroscopic hip surgery, as well as hip replacement surgery, including robotic assisted surgery.

I gained my medical degree from the University of Manchester in 2003, graduating with honours at the top of my year. I also gained a first class honours degree in Pathological Science during which I undertook research into gene therapy for back pain. I was awarded a Wolfson scholarship for this year. I was also awarded prizes for my performance in my undergraduate exams.

My specialist training in Orthopaedics in the North West Deanery led to the award of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2012. A large proportion of my training was at Wrightington Hospital, and I completed a Young Adult Hip Fellowship during my final year of training at Wrightington Hospital. I was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in 2014.

During my training I have been awarded various travelling fellowships including the British Orthopaedic Association Singhal travelling fellowship, Charnley Latta travelling fellowship and the British Hip Society and Stryker Robotic surgery travelling fellowship. This has allowed me to visit other centres of excellence including the Steadman Clinic, Vail, Mayo Clinic, Rochester and Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYU. This has allowed me to gain further exposure and keep abreast of the latest techniques in hip arthroscopy and hip replacement.

I also have a keen interest in research and have been awarded research grants by the British Orthopaedic Association. My current work relates to 3 dimensional planning for hip replacement surgery. My work is in partnership with the University of Denver and Industry, including JnJ Medtech, Corin and Ortoma.

I have published book chapters and articles in peer reviewed journals in the field of hip surgery and I am an associate editor of Hip International, a journal dedicated purely to the field of hip surgery.
